DWTS Season 9 Premiere Preview

Here's a quick preview of what we know will happen on the first night of the Dancing with the Stars Fall season.

Here's what we already know:

All 16 DWTS season 9 celebrity contestants and their professional partners are set to dance; no current injuries are changing things up this season. They're nicely split by gender, half men and half women.

Each couple will perform one of four dances: Foxtrot, Salsa, Viennese Waltz or Cha Cha Cha. Each dance style will be performed by four different Dancing with the Stars season 9 couples. Ashley Hamilton, Chuck Liddell, Donny Osmond and Louie Vito will dance the Foxtrot; Natalie Coughlin, Kathy Ireland, Joanna Krupa and Debi Mazar will shimmy the Salsa; Macy Gray, Melissa Joan Hart, Mya and Kelly Osbourne will glide through the Viennese Waltz; and Aaron Carter, Mark Dacascos, Tom DeLay and Michael Irvin will shake the Cha Cha Cha. For detailed partner information, you can find the entire cast list here.

The super duper important phone numbers for casting votes have been confirmed on ABC.com and by several celebrity Tweets, too.

They are as follows:
Aaron and Karina: 1-800-868-3401
Chuck and Anna T: 1-800-868-3402
Mark and Lacey: 1-800-868-3403
Ashley and Edyta: 1-800-868-3404
Donny and Kym: 1-800-868-3405
Louie and Chelsie: 1-800-868-3406
Michael and Anna: 1-800-868-3407
Tom and Cheryl: 1-800-868-3408
Debi and Maks: 1-800-868-3409
Melissa and Mark: 1-800-868-3410
Mya and Dmitry: 1-800-868-3411
Kathy and Tony: 1-800-868-3412
Natalie and Alec: 1-800-868-3413
Macy and Jonathan: 1-800-868-3414
Joanna and Derek: 1-800-868-3415
Kelly and Louis: 1-800-868-3416

Remember: This evening you'll get 16 votes per phone line, so don't let any go to waste.

Now you'll have to bear with me, because I'm about to get down to the nitty gritty. As a well-seasoned DWTS fan, the question what happened on Dancing with the Stars is clearly a slew of smaller (but by no means trivial) questions condensed into one. Here are some that are currently circling around in my mind. Will brand new Dancing with the Stars season 9 pro dancer Anna Demidova, winner of last season's pick-a-pro DWTS competition, rock her brand new job? Will actor/former teen heartthrob Donny Osmond actually be able to dance? Better yet, will it even matter if he can't? After all, his sister Marie took third place a few seasons ago and her skills were questionable at best. Will Iron Chef America star Mark Dacascos' mad martial arts skills help he and partner Lacey Schwimmer to rocket to the top of the judges' leaderboard? And what about engaged pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff? Will Dancing with the Stars season 9 be the glue that holds them together or will the stress of competition rip them apart? Finally, will judges Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman have their first scuffle of DWTS season 9?What happened on Dancing with the Stars? It's a more complicated question than the non-fan would ever imagine, but I'm sure Dancing with the Stars Fall 2009 season will give out all of the answers before the last hip shakes.

So who should dance next?

Ho hum, it's the off-season for Dancing with the Stars. But that doesn't keep me from ruminating over which celebrities should appear on the show next! Here are a few names I'm throwing into the ring of possibilty.

Kelly Ripa. She's funny, perky, bubbly, a bit annoying at times, looks like she could probably actually dance to boot. She fits the DWTS contestant dossier to a T.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck. She's controversial but tries so hard to stand her ground. I don't know that she'd have the time between The View and the younguns, but you never know.

Michael Jordan. Okay, so this one's a pipe dream. If he can generate 1/4 of the magic that he creates on the basketball court in the Ballroom, he'd win for sure.

One of the Usual Suspects from the MTV Trash-Reality Shows like The Real World and The Gaunlet, or one of the gals from one of the Housewives of... shows. I bet one of those chicks from The Gauntlet would add spice to DWTS; or maybe she'd just learn some classy behavior. That would be a shocker. If Melissa Rycroft is a celebrity, so are these fist-pumping, wine glass-toting mini-rebels.

I'm sure I can come up with more, but I've gotta jet. Til next time!

Dancing to the Finals

I can't believe the DWTS season eight finale is next week! Insanity. It feels like this season has literally flown by.

So to quickly recap, we're down to three pairs: Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas, Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani, and Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke.

At this point, I think that barring a total meltdown, Gilles will take the Mirrorball Trophy handily. But will he face the finale red light in the company of Melissa or Shawn? I'm hoping for Shawn. I'd like to see Shawn take the whole competition. I love her attitude, her drive, and her dancing skills. But I don't think she'll win. I'm not in Melissa's camp for two reasons: 1) She didn't do the group dance a few weeks back and still got a score for it. BOOOO. I know, rules are rules, but it pisses me off. 2) I still don't think she's a real celeb. Sorry. Humiliating yourself by appearing on national TV in search of a husband (in the form of a man you've never even MET, no less) doesn't really give you true celebrity status.

But all of those ruminations aside, here are my guesses:
1 - Gilles and Cheryl will take the Mirrorball Trophy.
2 - Melissa's 'oh that poor girl!' fans will carry her and Tony to second place.
3 - Which leaves Shawn in third. Sigh. Again, not what I *want* to see, but what I *suspect* will happen.

Happy dancing!

Dancing with the Stars 2009 Spring Season: Week Nine
My ruminations on and recap of the ninth week of competition on Dancing with the Stars.
http://www.associatedcontent.comarticle/1715291/dancing_with_the_stars_2009_spring.html

Week Nine Tonight!

More Dancing with the Stars tonight on ABC! Week nine already. How did that happen?

As my fellow afficionados know, five couples remain: Ty and Chelsie, 'Lil Kim and Derek, Melissa and Tony, Gilles and Cheryl, and Shawn and Mark. And that, folks, is the order in which I'd like to see them eliminated from here on out.

Ty and Chelsie. I love Ty. He's my feel-good contestant of the season. Before the season premiered, I had him pegged to make an early exit, somewhere between The Woz and Holly Madison. But he impressed me big time! His stiff rodeo-carriage makes him a ballroom natural, and well, he's not great at Latin, but he's certainly not awful in that department, either. I'm only pegging him to hit the road tonight because of the five remaining celebs, he IS the weakest overall perfomer. Still love him, though.

'Lil Kim and Derek. Sigh. I think Kim is horribly overrated. The judges love her and I don't really understand why. Almost everything she does is oversexed and she makes me cringe. Is she better than I'd guessed she'd be? Absolutely. But the 'self' that she puts into her performances is a little too much for this gal.

Melissa and Tony. Honestly, after not perfoming last week, I wanted Melissa to go home. I still think it's unfair that she received a group dance score when she didn't even DO the dance. I'm sorry she's injured, but she should bow out and let Chuck and Julianne have their place in the top five. (And I know - rules are rules and Steve-O and Lacey were judged on their rehearsal performance several weeks ago. But this rule needs to be revisited.) Anyway, she's good, but a) she's not a real celeb, IMO, and b) well, the whole injury-thing irks me.

Giles and Cheryl. Gilles is such a knockout, drag-down great dancer. A bit too frenetic at times, but so graceful in those ballroom numbers that he almost makes me swoon! Add to that the chemistry that he and Cheryl have and ooooooh... they make me blush almost every week. I had him pegged for the finale early on, and I'm sticking to my guns on this one.

Shawn and Mark. I don't know how likely it is, but I really want Shawn to take the trophy. She's a great dancer. I thought she'd be good form the get-go, but she's been even better than I'd imagined. And she's only 17! I know some people are tired of that line, but it's true. She's just past that super-awkward phase for teens, and she's able to work it with the best of celebs. Love her work ethic and her drive to succeed.

So that's what I think.

Go here to see my recap of the last DWTS episode, just to refresh your memory for tonight's ninth night of competition!

See y'all later!

Julianne Finished with DWTS?

I keep seeing articles saying that Julianne Hough won't be returning to Dancing with the Stars this Fall. Fine. She has her music career (and Chuck) to take up her time.

But is she never coming back, or is she just taking a reprieve for the ninth season? Can't figure that one out. I've found articles that contradict themselves, saying the dramatic 'never coming back' but then the accompanying Julianne-quote says "THIS FALL".

Sigh. Where is journalistic integrity? Just using a shocking headline or first sentence to draw the reader in? Tricky, tricky.

The Eighth Elimination... Good Grief!

Okay, so now I'm going to rant and rave for a while over tonight's elimination. Please do me a favor and click the link below to read my recap and play-by-play of the results show itself - thanks!

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1694045/dancing_with_the_stars_2009_spring.html?cat=2

Moving forward...

What. The. Heck?! What the heck happened? Chuck and Julianne, seriously? Chuck was just hitting his stride. He was just in the process of releasing his inner Dancing with the Stars beast! And now he's GONE? I'm confused.

I'm also annoyed. It may be an unpopular opinion (maybe? I dunno), but I think the celebs should have to dance every week in order to continue on in the competition, so Melissa should've had to forfeit. I'm such a hard-ass, especially with her standing there sniffling and crying on national TV after she was saved to dance again next week. Boo-freakin'-hoo and get over it, chica. I wasn't really anti-Melissa before, but now, I'm not so sure.

People get injured. It's a part of life, especially when you're engaging in activities that can cause bodily harm. And dancing can cause said harm, duh! Even if you're a former ballet dancer and Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. I feel *sorry* for you, but I'm not going to *vote* for you. It annoyed me last night when she received a score for the group dance that she didn't take part in. And it annoys me more and more as time goes by. How is it fair for her to get a score that she didn't DO anything to earn?

Oh well. As DH always says, life ain't fair. Suck it up and move on!

But I'll miss Chuck and Julianne. I didn't think they were the best couple out there. Nope, they were on my list to head out the door, right after Ty and Chelsie. (Who are, of course, still standing. Boy, I'm bad at guessing this season! And I'm shocked that there are so many burly, manly-man rodeo riders and lovers out there watching DWTS, too!) But they had a lot of heart, and they certainly brought a lot of fun to the Ballroom Floor every week.

I'm super-de-duper excited to see what transpires now that we're down to five couples on this eighth season of Dancing with the Stars. It's pretty clear that Ty should head home next week. But after that? Not a clue as to what'll happen! I'm tired of seeing the judges be overly hard on Shawn because I think she's wonderful and would love to see her win it all. Gilles is nice to look at most of the time (though his hair scared me last night. Far, far too much volume), so he can stay for the finals, too. I've already given my opinion on Melissa. And 'Lil Kim. Ah, the season's queen of the overrated! I *like* Kim and Derek. I really, really do. But I think the judges have given her scores that she didn't really *earn* a few too many times now. Their much-lauded Jive? Lots of Derek dancing and Kim standing around. I was not impressed. And my not-impressedness continues on.

Well, time to head off to bed. Have a great week!

Dancing with the Stars Spring 2009 - Week Eight

Last night's Dancing with the Stars was a good one. One of the best I've seen in quite a while, actually, in terms of the quality of dance. Definitely the best I've seen with 6 couples still in the mix! Here's my official recap, complete with snarky remarks:

Dancing with the Stars 2009 Spring Season: Week Five

Back soon with more snarkery!

Welcome!

Yup, you've stumbled upon a brand spankin' new Dancing with the Stars blog! Woohoo! In the days and weeks and months (and dare I say years?!) to come, you'll be able to follow along with me as I give my own personal no-holds-barred opinions on the dancers, the performances, the special guests, and maybe even Len, Bruno and Carrie Ann! I'll link ya to my show recaps (which are posted on Associated Content on a regular basis) and do a little blog-only ranting and raving, too.

Rev up your engines. This DWTS superfan is ready to ride!
